Dear all!
To those of you who have already enroled in my classes - many thanks!
My dance cv is available on the BlackSheepBellydance website - www.blacksheepbellydance.com; there's a link to Tribal Fest and all the performers' cvs.
I've also posted on various tribes, more recently some supplementary details e.g. why I dance on the Indigo tribe.
Anyway, I am rather pleased with my latest gothic fusion choreography - especially some of the combos and shapes I have created for the Medusa performances. The combos I will be teaching at Tribal Fest will also lend themselves to Tribal Improv and I am sure you will enjoy them as much as I do!
However, I wanted to promote the use of veils and/or wings in Tribal a bit more, too. My wings of Dracula are NOT the same as wings of ISIS; they were made for me and to my design. The actually wings are made from silk and the 'sticks' have claws. I intend to start with the basic technique, then some movements and combinations. If you do not have wings, please bring (perferably silk) veils and by tying them, either by knotting them or carefully pinning them, together.
I think veils do have a place in Tribal (and Fusion); I have also created a Medieval routine using silk finger veils. Although this is now a choreography, we in Medusa started off improvising and 'playing' with the veils. It looks ever so pretty and adds variety as well as an element of surprise to any performance. Besides, veils can are pretty and you can really captivate and mesmerize the audience with the colours and movements, provided they are executed well.
Going back to the wings of Dracula, please don't be put off by the fact that you haven't got any (yet). They are, however a very powerful and impressive prop, provided the dancer can demonstrate control over it e.g. the prop doesn't take over. We will learn such control - some of the rules of using wings can be applied to veils, too!
I have been meaning to create a show reel of some of the troupe's performances; however due to having a new job, I have not had the time. I am still hoping to have some clips up before I leave for California.
If you have any questions with regards my classes at Tribal Fest, please email me: heike.humphreys@mac.com.
I look forward to meeting and/or seeing some of you again! Rock on \m/
