BOLOYE is also called panther dance because young men initiated wear during the dance which remind you of the pelage of the animal's felines. KOTOU is a dance of rejoicing. KOTOU was created for the boa snake which vomited girls in three nights in exchange of having the men making a dance for him. This dance is generally reserved for men but women could take part. The musicians lead the steps of dancers... N'GORON is an above all, a secret dance: the youths are initiated by a circle of<< Poro>> for 7 years in the secret forest. At the End of period of initiation the youths dance the N'GORON. These dancers will then teach other girls of their generation the dance of N'GORON that is used to greed dignitaries and officials as a dance of rejoicing.

I will begin to teach another class at the Dance Institute of Washington... :: Flamenco Technique for Belly Dance/Flamenco Belly Dance Fusion (not sure just yet of the title!) The class will be a BII level and above. Please remember that my levels are *demanding*. Flamenco technique demands work and is a must particularly for tribal dancers seeking to move to the next level. Focus will be on arms, floreos, upper body movement, turns, and combinations. They will be as close as i can make them to a Level I/II Salimpour Technique (i'm not a SSS certified teacher, but do have Suhaila's support) . The class will also demand FCBD ATS movement vocabulary foundation. And depending on the final focus may also delve a little into flamenco stylization for oriental style. Nina did and excellent job finding a new home for our monthly Halfa here in Baltimore. The people who worked at "Cafe' Spice" were kind and very helpful. Our water glasses were constantly getting filled. The atmosphere was "charged with warmth and support" from our friends and family. It was a Big "Family Reunion" for me,since I had not seen a lot of my "Belly Dancing Sisters" in awhile. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve sent out an update on our new collective effort in Baltimore. These latest developments at BRE are so exciting and creativley invigorating. We’re well underway now!!! My new hero, Katheryn Williamson (knee deep in MFA studies at UMBC) wasn’t able to make it out to the Playa this year. Instead, along with numerous other things, she spent her time arduosly chipping aging floor tile off the new Gallery Space revealing a much more attractrive concrete floor which she then clear coated into a beautiful shine. It really looks amazing now. So much else has ben completed I’ll just list the biggest accomplishments. All our rooms are now rented!!! We’ve got a nice selection of creative people whom I’ll introduce in another update. We are actively in the process of working out our individual roles as a community of artists along with all the attendant streses and rewards. We are currently in the process of filing for Non Profit- 501 3c status This will allow us to apply for a number of Artistic Grants and to purchase supplies and materials at a non taxed rate. Additionally we've had an experienced close friend of ours offer to search and write Grant Proposals for B.R.E. free of charge! We have also invited a close electrician/lighting designer friend of ours to come make art and stay free of charge for the month of October in exchange for his expertise in getting the space properly wired and beautifully lit. We’ve now established several of the Common Studio areas as well. 1. The Drawing/Painting area is up with a niced supply of artist materials, including patels, paints brushes canvas, paper easels etc. 2. The Pottery area is up with Justins pottery wheel taking center stage. He’s already been making some nice pieces. 3. The Matting area is up with a 36 inch matt cutter, and all the tools needed to cut finished matts. A number of frames are available too for our first show. 4. The Computer Lab has been started with the Macs up and working printing to 3 separate printers including an epson 1280 oversize printer. (Scanners, the IBM platforms and internet still to come.) 5. The Dance/Yoga section with fitness balls and some exercise equipment also saw some morning Yoga action too. (Mirrors and a floor to come) But what I think is one of the most exciting event in the past few weeks was: OUR FIRST LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCE!!!! Last Thursday, BRE opened our doors and provided lighting, an audience, and rehearsal space to a visiting Duo just returning from a tour of Panama , and in return were gifted an amazing intimate night of performance and good people. It’s moments like these that are what this new resource is all about. Look for more of the same. Please consider contacting either Katheryn or myself about visiting. We’d LOVE to have you!
